If you drive through Montville as often as I do, you’ve seen the sign for Rails Steakhouse and the beauty of the new building emerging as the natural stone facade and copper roofs go into place. The suspense was killing me! Luckily, I got invited to take a look at what’s in store for all of us!
I’m happy to report that we can look forward to enticing new shopping options, high-end 1 and 2 bedroom rentals and a restaurant/lounge that’s different from anything else we have locally! Rails Steakhouse is part of a 55,000 square foot development located right along the train tracks and adjacent to the Towaco train station. It will be called Towaco Crossing, and the developers are hoping to create an appealing, walk-able downtown hub for an already great town.
The creative vision behind Rails is a combination of the rustic and the luxurious – drawing from traditional Colorodo lodges, old fashioned train stations and contemporary industrial chic. The center support for the restaurant is a 160 year old, 30′ high Douglas fir trunk, stripped of its bark to display a beautifully whorled natural grain – and the rest of the design is just as unique and amazing!
Train travelers riding by will be amazed to see a waterfall cascading from the front of the restaurant, as well as outdoor seating and a fireplace. Inside the front door, patrons will find open two-story spaces featuring large scale art pieces and a dramatic fire feature climbing the wall by the bar. In addition to the main dining room, there will be spacious lounge areas with luxurious leather seating. A dramatic staircase showcasing the warmth of wood contrasted with industrial metal elements leads to the second floor.
The upstairs will offer a second bar, even more inviting lounge seating and a serpentine catwalk leading to the Mosaic Room – a private dining area featuring a floor made of contrasting American woods, cut to varying sizes and pieced together in a whimsical jigsaw puzzle fashion. The second story also features a large outdoor dining area with sweeping panoramic views. It’s the perfect spot to end the day with a drink and a beautiful sunset while basking in the warmth of the outdoor fireplace.
The basement of the restaurant will offer an entirely different experience from the open spaces and rustic warmth of the upstairs. This level embraces a covert Prohibition-era, Speakeasy style – with lower ceilings, curtained alcoves for private parties and specialty drinks at the bar. The speakeasy will even have separate entrance, complete with a sliding window for passwords, to private events! Also included in the downstairs will be the restaurant’s in-house beef aging room, wine cellar and cheese storage and a captain’s table by the basement prep kitchen for special, private events.
One of the things I’m most excited about is that Rails is going to have VIP Membership available! If you’ve been looking for that special home away from home that you can always count on for a fantastic evening, then this option is for you. Wine connoisseurs who become VIPs will be given their own, private temperature and humidity controlled wine locker with room for a whole case! There will be dozens of special surprises and perks in store for VIPs, so make sure to keep your eyes on Rails’ Facebook page and Towaco Crossing & Rails’ websites for more tantalizing details! They’re aiming for a Spring 2014 opening, so we don’t have long to wait!
This project will be wonderful for Towaco and Montville Real Estate. Montville has already been named one of Money Magazine’s Top Places To Live, and this is just the thing to make it THE top place to live! I can’t wait to tell all my Montville homebuyers all about it!
